After the fire of May 6, 1937, the exposed aluminum support framework of the Hindenburg remained, having sunk to the ground at Lakehurst within minutes. The photographs of the wreckage belong to the final phase of newsreel material and document the extent of the destruction. The disaster, in which 36 people lost their lives, ended the era of commercial passenger airship travel.
