After the fire of May 6, 1937, the aluminum framework of LZ 129 Hindenburg lay on the ground at Naval Air Station Lakehurst. The fire had completely engulfed the airship in less than a minute; 36 of the 97 people on board lost their lives. Emergency personnel worked immediately after the disaster in the area of the still-glowing wreckage. The newsreel footage from this phase documents the extent of the destruction and the immediate rescue and recovery operations.
