In June 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy visited the Federal Republic of Germany. The photograph shows a vehicle convoy with Kennedy, accompanied by mounted police escort and densely packed spectators along the route. Kennedy’s visit to Germany (June 23–26, 1963) took him through several cities and culminated in his speech in front of Schöneberg Town Hall in West Berlin. The visit took place against the backdrop of the Cold War and the construction of the Wall erected in 1961.
