Speakers Corner in London’s Hyde Park had been a traditional venue for public free speech since the 19th century, where people of all kinds regularly came to speak. Jack Lieb captured this scene in color in May 1944, a few weeks before D-Day on June 6, 1944. The footage belongs to Lieb’s London preparation sequences, which document life in the British capital during the assembly phase of the Allied invasion forces. Such everyday shots form the civilian framework within his film, before the material transitions to the crossing and the landing at Utah Beach.
