The image was created during the Allied landing in Normandy on 6 June 1944. Utah Beach was the westernmost of the American landing sectors; Jack Lieb came ashore there together with a naval-based element of the 82nd Airborne Division. In the background, the extensive invasion fleet is visible, which ensured the supply and reinforcement of the troops. This photograph is among the few surviving color documents of this historic event.
